The Garage Coffee, Music & More

It's official summer break! Yeah, we know, for MOST of us, that doesn't mean our work days are any different, but that doesn't mean you can't plan some FUN into these HOT summer days! This past week has been over 100 degrees every day - definitely pool days! Or, "stay inside in the air conditioning" days - and we can help out with keeping you cool! Grab a sno-cone or an iced coffee, and kick back and relax in the music hall, letting the cool air of the AC, and the even cooler sounds of all the great bands we have lined up for you, wash over you - it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face, and you'll forget about the 107 degree heat waiting for you outside!
Speaking of heat - temperatures can be up to 114 degrees in the Big Bend, take all those heat advisory warnings you are seeing seriously!
  • Prepare for power outages - raise your AC temp a few degrees during the hottest part of the day - we know that doesn't seem to make sense, but if EVERYONE did it, the power grid will take less of hit, meaning less chance of a power outage, meaning WAAAAAAY better than no AC at all
  • Check on elderly and sickly neighbors - they, and children, are most at risk in the heat. Check in, make sure they doing ok.
  • Your pets are hot too! Make sure they have plenty of clean, cool water and shade. If possible, bring them indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
  • NEVER leave children or pets in cars - not even for "a minute".
  • Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, sunglasses with UV protection, and a hat - preferably a large-brimmed one.
  • Stay hydrated- drink PLENTY of fluids - even if you don't "feel" thirsty.
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.
  • If you have to work outside, take frequent breaks.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and what to do about each! (the images below from the National Weather Service will link to a full version - print or share!)

At The Garage, we believe in the power of arts and music. We aim to ensure EVERYONE has the opportunity to experience live music, regardless of age, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or any of the rest of the things that make us all unique. We back that up by making all shows ALL AGES, in a family-friendly environment, and ALL ticket proceeds go directly to the bands. We hope you will join us in making sure the live music experience doesn't die!
